Hi, I'm Mike Sommer
Before starting Alaminos, I enjoyed a long career in a variety of corporate finance and accounting roles. I began my career in 1989 in the San Francisco office of Arthur Andersen LLP, one of the elite “Big Six” accounting firms at the time. (I know we’re down to “Big Four” now.)
My last corporate role was serving as the assistant treasurer of Scotts Miracle-Gro in central Ohio, a position I left in 2018 when it was time for a new generation to move up. For several years after that, I provided corporate finance consulting services to non-financial clients on a project basis. Interested readers can find my recitation of the full litany of my corporate career in my LinkedIn profile.
In the midst of all that career stuff, I was also fortunate to develop a full family life, for which my first wife will righteously claim most of the credit. (As my son says from time-to-time, “She’s not wrong.”) I met and married her in Saint Louis during my Anheuser-Busch years. We raised our young son and daughter through most of their elementary school years during my stint at Gardner Denver in the small Mississippi River town of Quincy, IL; and they moved through adolescence and into young adulthood in suburban Columbus, OH while I was at Scotts Miracle-Gro. As for my first wife, I am still happily married to her and am doing what I can to keep it that way.
